Wildlife Sightings in the Backyard

Most recently, we spotted at least four hare leverets frolicking through the foliage.  Teacup sized baby bunnies.  Hopping and dashing around.  It was quite squeal worthy.  Especially since the parents of said leverets have been terrorizing our vegetable garden, and that night, they chose to eat out at Broderick Backyard Bistro instead of the Broderick Garden Salad Bar.  We did not get pictures.

We leased a spot of downspout to an expectant family of robins.

The chick hatched a few days after this picture was taken, and we did get to see a hungry beak sticking up from the nest, but the parents weren't too happy about us lurking for very long.  I watched these parents dive bomb the ever present squirrel population in effort to secure some family quiet time.

Speaking of our squirrel population; I think the current count for the year of most squirrels sighted at one time is five.  Last year, during the fall acorn drop (on our front doorstep) we got up to eight.  These buggers are quite tame, in a way that entails coming to the open doors looking for handouts.  Fortunately the screens keep them at bay--so far!

This character simply ambled through one evening, and I think we must be on a biweekly walking circuit, because we will catch scent of him or her about that often.  These pictures were taken from behind the safety of a locked glass door. (In the case you didn't see or pick up the hints; this visitor was a skunk)

Happy Nature Watching!
